Isle of Wight ferry petition with 7k angered by high fares

Isle of Wight Ferries

THOUSANDS of fed up Wightlink and Red Funnel ferry users across the Isle of Wight are saying “enough is enough” at the cost of cross-Solent travel, by signing a petition.

Simon Jackson, an angry ferry user, started the petition on the Wightlink Users Facebook page, on August 2.

He said: “Isle of Wight ferries have reached a stage now where they are beyond a joke. We, as passengers, are being used as cash cows, with business and tourism affected.

“To get on and off the Island is beyond expensive. It is absolutely extortionate and simply cannot be afforded by many people now.

“The reliability of the ferries is simply abysmal. What seems like every day, there is a news report of another reason why ferries are delayed, or are not running.”

As of this morning (Saturday, August 10), 7,052 have signed the petition, to show their anger and displeasure at the state of cross-Solent ferry services provided by Wightlink and Red Funnel.

“Where do we go from here? We have two new MPs fighting our corner, but if, as Islanders, and anyone who uses the ferries, were to sign this petition, this would surely show to the government we have had enough,” continues Simon.

“It would also help support our MPs with their task of making something happen.”

Writing directly to ferry users, Simon urges Islanders who use the ferries to back the petition and help force change.

“I am sure you will agree, enough is enough, and something must be done,” adds Simon.

“We need reliable ferries we can count on. We need capped fares to ensure fairness for all.

“Your signature can make a difference. Stand with the community and support this cause.”
