Isle of Wight ferry Wightlink warns of bank holiday FastCat disruption

There will be disruption on Wightlink’s FastCat service over the bank holiday weekend, the Isle of Wight ferry firm has confirmed.

An ongoing mechanical fault with the gearbox on board Wightlink’s Wight Ryder 1 vessel is to blame.

As such, the company will be operating an amended timetable on Saturday, 24 and bank holiday Monday (May 26), between Portsmouth and Ryde.

Wight Ryder 2 will be operating as advertised on these days, but other sailings will be operated by a charter vessel, which takes slightly longer to sail to and from the Island, causing ‘some short delays’.

Services today (Friday), Sunday, May 25 and Tuesday, May 27 will remain unaffected.

A spokesperson for the firm said: “If you’ve booked to travel on either of these days and would like to sail earlier or later than planned, you can simply arrive at the port and our team will be happy to check you in for the sailing of your choice.

“You don’t need to amend or change your booking.

“We believe that replacing Wight Ryder 1 with a charter vessel will only have a minor impact on travel plans, but we truly appreciate your patience at this time.

“As soon as the repairs are made to Wight Ryder 1 and final inspections completed, it will return to service, and we will revert to our usual schedule.”

“Again, we apologise sincerely for any changes to your travel plans and thank you for your understanding and support during this time.”
